Public Art

LUAP extends his practice into public space through Sculpture, Installation, Painting and architectural form. Moving beyond the studio allows ideas that often begin from personal experience to take on a different physical and social scale, while remaining connected to the psychological concerns that run throughout his work.

These projects are developed in relation to their setting rather than placed into it as isolated objects. Architecture, landscape, material and the ways people use a space can all influence the final work. The Pink Bear has shifted from image to monument, environment and inhabitable structure, creating encounters that move between familiarity and strangeness, visibility and introspection. The Pavilion is a particularly clear example, transforming a private recurring symbol into a space that people could physically enter and occupy.

Working publicly also changes who encounters the work and how. People may discover it as part of a street, park, festival or shared cultural space rather than by choosing to enter a gallery. For LUAP, that shift creates a way for ideas around memory, vulnerability, identity and connection to move from the personal into a collective experience.
