LUAP’s Williams Bear G has been exhibited at Christie’s King Street alongside works by Anish Kapoor, Yinka Shonibare and Howard Hodgkin, before selling for three times its listed price in support of Terrence Higgins Trust.
The 2016 Print is part of LUAP’s Coming To Town series and combines Acrylic and Screen Print on Somerset White Satin Paper. Measuring 56 × 76 cm, the work brings the Pink Bear into the Terrence Higgins Trust auction at Christie’s in London.
The annual auction draws together work from across Contemporary Art to raise funds for the charity. This year, Williams Bear G is presented alongside works by Anish Kapoor, Yinka Shonibare and Howard Hodgkin, with contributions from artists and figures across contemporary culture.
Exhibited at Christie’s King Street ahead of the live auction, the Print forms part of a longstanding relationship between Terrence Higgins Trust and the Art world, through which artists have contributed works to support its work around HIV.
Founded in 1982, Terrence Higgins Trust was the first UK charity established in response to the AIDS epidemic. It continues to provide support and advice to people living with or at risk of HIV, while campaigning against the stigma and discrimination surrounding it.
At the auction, Williams Bear G sells for three times its listed price, substantially increasing the amount raised by the work for the charity.
The print was exhibited at Christie's main auction house on Kings Street.
