LUAP supports the inaugural Holiday House London, bringing The Pink Bear into a major interior design showcase raising funds for breast cancer research. The cause has a personal significance following the loss of LUAP’s Nanna to breast cancer.
His Nanna was, as LUAP describes her, “the keystone of the family”. Her death affected the whole family and particularly his mum, shaping an understanding of cancer as something that reaches beyond the person receiving the diagnosis.
That personal connection has influenced the causes LUAP chooses to support. In 2014, he took part in Helmets For Heroines, creating work for an auction raising funds for Breast Cancer Care. Holiday House continues that commitment through a project where art and design can contribute directly to research and support.
Founded by interior designer and breast cancer survivor Iris Dankner, Holiday House brings together leading designers, artists and brands to raise money for breast cancer research. After successful editions in New York and the Hamptons, the project comes to London for the first time in November 2017.
The London edition takes over two townhouses in St John’s Wood, with 25 rooms created by different interior designers. Rita Konig, Nina Campbell and Nicky Haslam are among those taking part, with Farrow & Ball and 1stDibs also supporting the event.
For LUAP, projects like Holiday House offer a way for creative work to have a practical impact beyond the exhibition itself. Supporting breast cancer research is particularly close to home, but it also reflects a wider approach to choosing collaborations where the work can help raise funds, awareness or support for other people.
All proceeds from Holiday House London will support UK-based breast cancer research programmes. The event runs in St John’s Wood from 9 November to 10 December 2017.
