Self Incarnation
Self Incarnation brings together Sculpture, Painting and Print developed for a former police station in Hampstead, London. Using the visual language of cells, barriers and institutional systems, the project examines psychological confinement and the ways emotional distress can affect a sense of agency.
At its centre, The Pink Bear appears behind bars while the possibility of escape remains visibly present. Elsewhere, works based on Community Chest cards turn experiences of depression, therapy and human connection into blunt instructions, borrowing the logic of a board game to frame complex emotional states as rules, rewards and penalties.
Humour sits alongside the more vulnerable aspects of the work. A hug becomes a reward, therapy a financial penalty, and confinement something that can be both external and internal. Across the project, institutional language and personal experience are brought into the same space, creating a tension between restriction, care and the possibility of change.
